They don't want him at all. One way they can achieve that is by recovering enough seats to block a vote. The other way is to so thoroughly destroy his reputation that it is toxic to even consider him, say by calling him a rapist addict. Dems are perfectly capable of doing more than 1 thing at once. Like, I know none of you are stupid, and this isn't exactly some sort of deep state conspiracy theory.
