He knows that Kavanaugh won't be replaced with a more extreme judge. The reason Trump (and he) want Kavanaugh is because of the way Kavanaugh views presidential power and special investigations.

Yeah thats why it was such a weird comment

Because the presumption of dems has always been that if they can delay a vote until after midterms, they may have the ability to completely block ANY of Trump's picks through until 2020, which would either push any future nominations left between now and then or allow them to push one of their own after an election. Given that 99% of the coverage on Kavanaugh has been on Roe v Wade it's clear that their concerns are more than just special investigations.

So, if the dems believe that an intrusion here would give them the opportunity to push that open seat left one way or another, they must be willing to risk a future nomination being even further right.

Kavanaugh is what the GOP put up while in power, why would people reaffirming the GOP through a vote mean they should replace Kavanaugh with someone more extreme? What is your logic here other than lol if the Dems lose lets fuck the country up?

I'm not saying they SHOULD. I'm saying dems are treating this like a "nothing to lose" gamble where they fuck around as hard as they can to push a future nomination that's more left than Kavanaugh. However, he was relatively centrist among the 4 or so finalists Trump pulled from, so if he's out you have to assume the next nomination is coming from that same pool of people. Which means we might get Amy Barrett next, and that's actually horrifying. The reality is dems are playing a dangerous game in which they risk republicans pushing a more openly conservative candidate as Kavanaugh's replacement in exchange for the shot at stonewalling until they can push one of their own.
