What, you prefer more adult streaming sites? The adult streaming sites I can think of do have their merits, but I feel they serve a bit of a different purpose.

At its core, yes. To turn an opinion into a review, though, you need to be able to express it in an informative and relatable manner. If all people get from your review is "I like this and if you disagree you're an idiot," it's not a very useful review, and nobody's going to pay much attention to you. If you wanted to be a successful reviewer, you'd need to change a lot about how you conduct yourself online to make yourself more likable.

I think that's more attention spans than skill, and even then not so much those attention spans being particularly short as the fact that there's so much other stuff coming out. Most games aren't that hard to finish, certainly not to the point where finishing most of what you start should be considered a mark of tremendous skill. That's mostly just a matter of committing yourself to finishing them.

I do agree that the stats for people finishing games are rather low, though. As much as you hate Steam, looking at its global achievement stats to see how far people get can be pretty interesting. (...)

That's not to say there aren't cases where it is difficulty, especially with games that have particularly hard bits, but I'm far more inclined to believe that it's much more often a matter of losing interest, rather than getting stuck.

I don't stream at all. This goes back to it being a different gen. I could do reviews but I'm not what they're looking for if they want a streaming celeb. Nor do I want that much attention. Followers become stalkers, you get locked into that social media shit... No thanks.

My method of writing when chatting isn't the same. If I'm dealing with a bunch of turds then I adjust accordingly. Reviews, reports, notes to tech support, yeah I use a different tone. I mean here we have a 'back and forth' progression to the posts. Who would I call an idiot in a general review? And who cares about likable? Don't we have a number of reviewers who created an angry persona?

About the whole finishing games thing I didn't say that to brag. My intent was more 'I played the whole thing to review fairly' compared to anyone who plays for an hour or two then leaves. Do streamers play entire games? Anything beyond an indie would be quite a marathon.

Very true, there IS too much being released. The good, is the variety. The bad, no time to play it all especially if you need to play what's popular at the moment. I'm already 2 years behind so what do I care what's new. I'll enjoy the current game and move along. Although with work it's not like I can play 8 hour sessions.

Skill is hard to judge because not everyone grew up with NES games. Megaman, Furi, Demon's Souls, even roguelikes are tough but fair for me. Some can't finish 'em. I dunno what's keeping gamers from seeing games through to the end but data from Steam or elsewhere says it's becoming more common.
