I never thought that highly of the original FMA and had always been surprised by the praise it received. From what I've seen of Brotherhood (and I kinda want to watch at this point), it seems better in every regard. I maintain you need to watch both. The original anime does the start way better because everything is being established. But it was finishing before the manga was ending so the the later parts are lackluster.
