serious question: what is there to be hyped about a new smartphone? It runs faster and takes better pictures, and has a bigger screen

but its a smartphone. What are you going to do with it on launch day? Just be amazed how quickly it opens your contacts? Apple phones can't even play (real) games

Because I like apple products and my phone is nearly 4 years old. It's time for an upgrade. I've tried Samsung in the past (S3) and it was pretty shitty. Why would I switch from a product I like?

To be fair, this is pretty reasonable. People who upgrade their phone yearly are being a bit over-the-top; people who get excited about a new model because they're due for an upgrade anyway are fine.

(Although my advice? Ditch both Apple and Samsung, and go Xiaomi or Meizu - the latter in particular, I had the M3 Note for a few years, got a new (non-Meizu) phone, and actually ended up going back to the M3 Note because it was so much better - though I do want to upgrade to either the M6 Note or the Meizu 15 soon. With this being said, fair warning - I've heard the Meizu M5 Note (and related models like M5c) are a bit sub-par; so avoid that - M6 isn't much more expensive anyway.)
