It goes back to the whole "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" and being "self-made". Celebrating yourself for your own achievements, even if it means ignoring how much help you got along the way, and, most pertinent to this argument, the fact that not everyone starts at "0" to get where they end up. Because when you assume we all have the exact same level of opportunity in this world...
