This is Touhou 15, for those not aware. ZUN changed his musical style starting from the 13th game (Ten Desires) to one which, in my opinion at least, is greatly inferior to his older styles. I find pretty much none of the songs from 13 onwards that enjoyable or memorable, and this one... is not much of an exception. A lot of the blame is on the soundfont, which really highlights the flaws: his tendancy to drill the snares way too much (they're so loud), the crazy-to-a-fault style of writing melodies and their accompaniment (seriously, 1:23-1:44 sounds ridiculous now). I don't care much for how some of the instruments sound either and don't believe they work terribly well together... and yet, he continues to use this soundset for everything since Ten Desires. Geez ZUN, why.

What brings this song back for me is 0:39-1:22, which I really enjoy. It reminds me of older Touhou and is the part which actually made this song memorable to me. This song is one of the only ones I remember from when I played Touhou 15. It's intense, it's epic and it's catchy! That part is so good, that it ended up making this song really difficult to place. The final boss themes are usually among the best songs of their respective Touhou games for me and frequently have that one great part which just screams "this is it, this is the final boss, give it your all" and I think this one is an example of that. I wish the rest of the song lived up to it.

Also something about the thumbnail on the YouTube video is strangely unsettling
