Just punishing them and ostracizing them doesn't work for the same reasons it doesn't work with addicts. This, 100%. There's a lot of parallels between pedophilia and homosexuality. For years people thought being gay was a choice, and that people who were born that way should be insulted and jailed and generally be ridiculed. The difference here is that morally, pedophiles shouldnt attain their endgoal since there's no stretch which justifies having sex with children. BUT there's a huge margin between not letting them have kiddie sex, and "let's kill them".
