That's where it gets tricky. Due to the treatment of non-whites in the past, it's for some reason made it easier for groups of like, but not identical people to band together without much thought about it. Due to the treatment of say, any vaguely hispanic looking person in America's past, those groups were able to find more commonality than white groups.

Does that make it okay for some and not for others? According to society, yes. I've personally always had a disdain for culture exclusivity and think that identity coming from a birthtrait is a boring way to live, but that's my two cents. People should be prideful of what makes them an individual, not a demographic.
