Well that's scary. Basically nothing to stop lunatics from taking over. Though this does explain why a lot of people who should really resign did not.


I mean, we still have means to remove them from office. And you just said that kicking someone out of their party in the UK doesn't actually do anything. They just carry on at their post as an independent. So, wut?


It makes it A LOT harder to get elected; it effectively ends their career come the next election. It also suspends a lot of the benefits they get from party membership. And most importantly it makes it clear that the party does not stand for that stuff.


All of this stuff still holds true in the US when a politician gets disowned by party leadership, minus the ability to officially boot them from the party. We just have one party right now that is ok with its members doing a lot of unsavory stuff.
