Chicago is not safe for anybody unfamiliar with it. Honestly in all those cities, it depends where you are. The worst crime in all of those cities are usually contained to areas that tourists usually don't go to, and are easy to avoid. And as long as you aren't doing anything stupid or looking for trouble, you'll likely never be a victim of crime in any of those cities. For Chicago(where I live), the worst of the crime is limited to parts of the city most don't go to. The crime issue is overblown in each of those cities, IMO. As long as you do your research on each of those cities before traveling, you will be fine.
