The important thing is that Robin and whoever s/he is paired up with basically solos the majority of any given map, so all you're really doing with the rest is picking who else gets experience, except in cases where flying units can put in work regardless, which obviously Sumia gets to do regardless. Lunatic Awakening is really just the Robin show where you pick one or two other combat units to use as a project on the side and for the sake of unlocking children chapters for more experience/items, then riding the kids the rest of the way, so you might as well pick the character that produces Galeforce/Rescue shenanigans eventually...regardless of how dubious the magic stat may be lol

This makes more sense to me, I can see how dark fliers would be good under this setup. I might change my mind on the class if I ever play lunatic difficulty; on hard they've done nothing but disappoint me though.
