Some of the revelations in that series made me physically ill and upset. And I'm glad I finally have something I can point to as an argument that I don't automatically hate dour things! What usually bothers me about grim stories is that quite often people are either evil for no actual reason or they're so over-the-top edgy that it just makes me angry. Here, despite how harsh a lot of the revelations were, I could see how they logically came to those conclusions and understand why they were acting that way.
