Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3

It's been a few days, so this might be a little more summary than not.

I really loved this season. It felt like the direction was a lot more clear than season 2. The general flow of everything felt really strong, so that even when a conflict was settled, it didn't feel like there was a lull as it led into the next thing.

Daisy name change was annoying, but it's... bearable. I love how Coulson is the only one who doesn't really do well with it. Old coot. Skye is just... a name she chose for herself, that defines a lot of who she is... and Daisy is a name she adopted when she found out who she was. That choice of fate over self-direction bothers me, though I guess it matches really well with the theme of this season.

The theme of course, being that fate is determined and you can't do anything to alter the course of events. The Inhumans following intelligent design, being able to see the future and do nothing to change it, Hive being unable to win... It all clearly points to this idea that everyone is just a pawn in same greater plan. That's the opposite of how this trope usually goes, so good on that? It feels a little depressing, though.

Simmons was rescued from Maveth REALLY fast. It makes sense given how long they needed to set up Hive, but man it... just happened really fast.

The ATCU plotline in the beginning was solid. A good way to get things going - have this organization in opposition to SHIELD, and paint Lash as a bad guy as well. Shift ATCU to being a semi-partner, while preparing to have them be taken advantage of by HYDRA again... and so it happened. Rosalind and Banks were quality characters who were taken away really quick. Would have liked a little more time with Ros, but they used her well for the time she had.

I wasn't really sure I knew what was going on with Ward. I guess he... actually felt like he was making a connection with what's her name from season 2, and so he was really driven by revenge against Coulson? And in the end, after everything he had worked for his whole life was proven to be not worth it... Garrett, HYDRA, even turning away from SHIELD... working to do something for Hive was just desperation in him seeking a purpose to his life? Regardless, Ward was kinda in a weird place, so writing him out was a good direction, and they even managed to keep the actor around for the whole season!

LincolnXDaisy was a weird couple. It worked out in the end, but honestly, as the show goes on, Daisy is the only character where I feel like they aren't quite sure what to do with. She was always going to become Quake (btw, a new Disney XD cartoon has her as a character along with SpiderGwen, Squirrel Girl, and Ms. Marvel and it also stars Chloe Bennett and looks like it might not be bad), but Skye was great in season 1. During her transition in season 2... it was still good, though a little weird how it affected her. Season 3... they had done so much development with her that it seemed like they had no idea what to do. I GET Lincoln and Daisy falling in love, but it was weird how they did it.

Lincoln was also kind of an awkward character that stuck around following s2 and they needed to do something with him. His flirtation with being a SHIELD agent was weird, but it was very clear he was just there for Daisy. The best part about him was his sacrifice. A great way to go, to save everyone. Gave his life the meaning that he had been looking for since Afterlife fell.

It was nice to see Talbot and Creel again. Creel being a good dude was awesome, and Talbot being his usual troll self adds a nice dynamic to the show.

Felix Blake was maybe the weirdest part about the season - used for just a little bit. Hopefully he'll have a bigger role in season 4, otherwise he'll have just popped up and disappeared for no reason.
