I think it has to do more with DE not wanting to homogenize the companions, and its totally understandable and they did a great job by making vac global across sentinels, but as it stands kavats, the dogs and the helminths (which look amazing btw) are like you said, MR fodder. thanosibe posted... It makes sense space cats and dogs (much like in reality) take a lot of mantanience, time and money because theyre living creatures. While sentinels are super easy mantanience free and ever rarely break down during missions. Theyre superior in almost every way. Scavenger is about the only plus of space dogs and cats.
