Also, I work for UPS and, while not exactly the same, the operations function very similarly. There are a lot of strange movements in the system that most people think are stupid/a mistake, but they're not. For instance, if you're sending a package from pretty much anywhere in PA to pretty much anywhere north of New York, it's usually faster to send it to KY through our air network than it is to send it straight there. Or, even stranger, if you're sending a package from Harrisburg, PA to Lancaster, PA (less than an hour from eachother), and the package goes through Burtonsvillle, MD it'll make delivery at the same time as something sent directly to Lancaster.
