it's really interesting how many people say civil war sucked because there was no debate since Iron Man was so obviously correct but... I think Iron Man was wrong!

Both sides were done pretty well.

Pssh. Who cares about the Sokovia accords?

It's about loss and how individuals deal when important people in their lives pass away.

How Cap loses the love of his life and the future past he never had, and the struggles he would go through to protect and fight for the ideals they share and the common people they know. He holds on.

How Tony struggles to deal with the loss of his mother and things left unsaid, the absence of the rock in his life Pepper, the potential dissolution of the family he made with the Avengers, the accident that took out Rhodey, and when he finds out how his parents died and that his friend, the one who knew his father long before he did, kept this information for so long and chose someone over him, yet another person in his life tossing him aside. He acts out.

How T'Challa, in such a very short time, is the antithesis to Stark where he knows his father loves him, his father is proud of him, and knows his father knows that his son loves him and is proud of him in turn. He suffers loss, but isn't broken by it. He bends and seeks vengeance, but sees how destructive it is and how that is not a person his father would want him to be. He moves forward.

How we all know the story of Uncle Ben, and Peter is making sure he tries to do the best he can for his late father figure and be a force for good and responsibility.

How Zemo is haunted by the loss of his loved ones and seeks to do to the people that did this to him as much as he can to truly make them feel even a modicum of the damage they did to him. He is a driven villain who is in so much pain that he cannot grieve.

How Wanda loses control of her power (or wasn't able to sustain the explosion really) and is sheltered, protected, against her own will, unable to have any further agency of her own.

How Vision maintains that level of protection and overwatch, but when he is unable to protect the one he cares for, he loses control and doesn't aim his blast of emotion. His and Wanda's loss of control are mirrored in the damage their power has.

How Bucky loses his mind and is unable to control his actions.

Okay, I'm rambling, and it's not just about that. There's so mcuh more, but honestly, the Sokovia accords were, in my opinion, the weakest part of the movie and only a MacGuffin.
