So I looked through both the original and this one and I don't really understand how the game itself plays. Like is it a card game a la MtG, or is more like DnD and you just use the cards instead of stat sheets?

Sorry for the delayed response - It's definitely more of a rules-light D&D. The quick rundown is that you build your characters using 6 different cards - race, class, a negative character trait, and a combination of 3 armaments and abilities. You "play" your cards during combat or RP by describing what happens related to that card (like "I shoot a fireball at that guy) and rolling a d6 - 1 is a failure, 6 is a critical hit, the rest are a success. You turn that card facedown and can't use it again until you've used the rest of your cards (except your race and class, since those can be somewhat situational), so that means that you're forced to use your negative trait eventually (to often hilarious results).

It's definitely meant to be a lighter/more casual roleplaying game, but it's a lot of fun. Here's a link to the full rules if you want to dig deeper:
