The narrator is instead telling us how she feels about it. It's a fundamentally removed perspective. I agree, but that doesn't make it bad. I think it's intentional and works in this point of the story. We're following a shit ton of characters now, so he's taking a bird's eye view of the situation, moving a camera around the various conflicts.
