Social media is irrelevant. The internet existed back then. Message boards like this one existed back then. There was tons and tons of hate.

Social media isn't the only place hate exists. Hate existed before social media, and it will exist after social media. Hate is eternal.

I think with Twitter and whatnot these days, it's all about "social status". No matter how much people talk about bullying, it'll always exist especially when people can hide behind their computers or phones when doing so.

Contemplating suicide is silly though considering it wasn't his fault. The only problem is letting people get to you.

But like you said, all this "hatred" had been around long before Twitter and all the other nonsense. They just don't see it because they can't go to every message board in existence.
