There are a lot of reasons I don't enjoy Age of Ultron.

But my #1 reason is that they don't sell you on the stakes!

Here is this robotic threat that hates humans and their emotions and sees them as inferior to him. And he... gasps. He laughs. He makes jokes. He gets angry. He feigns humanity even when it's not even necessary (like said gasps).

There is a lot of technojargon that means absolutely nothing and goes on for entire scenes. It doesn't mean anything to casual observers because it's not grounded in anything meaningful. Like, when you reach the point that a giant city being ripped from the ground and returned results in one death, you've completely failed at making something matter. Especially when you consider that these events lead up to the brouhaha in Civil War. "God, we hate those heroes, they...umm.... twenty people died in New York City once! That's like five fours! And that's terrible."

And I guess all of that pales in comparison to "I'M A MONSTER BECAUSE I CAN'T HAVE BABIES!"
