Ive heard, from the actor playing Conner, that Cage accepts no criticism or actor input. Conner and Hanks actors totally had chemistry and tried improvising a few moments that really added to their interactions but Cage told them to knock it off or he would find different actors. Connors actor talked about it on his stream.
