I'd personally say the right is more guilty of that than the left. Socialism is basically just applying Jesus's teachings to a socioeconomic model of government, and there are many, many, many passages that specifically call out protecting and caring for "the widow, the fatherless, the foreigner, and the poor" (four groups that conservatives have historically had troubles with).
