Sure it does. Unsafe software doesn't tell you that it's doing that.

Whether it exists or not is irrelevant. Being more recent by a factor of 15+, my recollection is automatically considered more credible than yours. The only way you'll be able to offset that difference is with proof. If you can't provide proof, you're just going to have to accept that you don't have a credible recollection.

For that matter, proof should be easy for you to produce. You could very easily record a video of you downloading Steam, installing HL2 and not being able to play it. That is, provided your experience can actually be recreated, which is precisely what nobody but you believes.

You can disable automatic updates.

Obviously you wouldn't sit at the computer and wait for a fix. You'd go do something else for a couple weeks until another patch came out, checking periodically. You wouldn't exactly be wasting any more time.

I linked you to a set of patch notes for HL2, which included bug fixes. More recently, DotA 2 sees extremely frequent patches that fix bugs (too many, really, but that's another issue). That's just plain false.

If you can't be more specific, then you shouldn't have brought it up. A vague "Valve totally sent me something that sounded like they were messing with my account even though I don't use it so they're evil" isn't going to convince anyone of anything unless you can provide actual details.

You are absurdly paranoid.

Hmm. True enough. So Steam is just bad software that wanted to be honest for a minute.

A few years hardly cancels my experience. How do we know you're not lying? Or worse you don't know what it's doing to your parent's PC. A lot of kids walk away during installs and miss all the fun messages. Furthermore there's nothing you could say that would convince me I need proof badly enough to reinfect and reenact what I went through. Letting myself get burned twice would make me look bad for a change.

Wrong. I would have if it was allowed. Then again you also claim it works offline. I'm thinking you've never touched Steam.

I like to finish games before moving onto more. Maybe I'll start 2, 3 tops if they're different from each other. A couple weeks doesn't fit my schedule. They're probably adding ways to dodge virus scanners.

That's great and all but I think HL2 on its own wasn't the problem. It was dragged down and destroyed by the 'other stuff' that came with it. I mean if that bad update wasn't forced to go through I'd have missed the glitches.

They're already a miserable bunch of goons. Tampering with my account is merely further proof they can't be trusted. And that's what you want is proof.

Again, one burn was enough. I learned my lesson. It's not paranoia if the threat is true.
