It's an odd example, but yet another example of why I never feel comfortable taking the conventional advice and "peacefully engaging with the other person and asking them to be quieter" before resorting to police.

Most people being loud and obnoxious don't give a shit about the people around them, they have no consideration. If they did, they wouldn't be making so much noise in the first place.
Some small % might legit not realize that they're annoying their neighbors, but it's not worth the personal risk to see if the people annoying you are that small %.

I try to endure a noise situation and 95% of the time it's over soon and I get on w/ my life, but if it goes on for a long time.... No scene, no confrontation. Just a private call to the police for a noise complaint. I don't want those inconsiderate fucks to know who called the police on them.

It's just usually...the fear is the person you call the police on will try to retaliate against you. Not call you a racist. I guess the end result is the same: fearing for your life just b/c you wanted quiet.
