I'm pretty sure they lost to Australia in the round of 16. I reopened the save file, but that ended up re-simming the knockout stage. In that iteration, Oman made it to the semifinal where they lost to Uruguay 3-0, then lost to Chile in the 3rd Place game 2-1.

After a few missed shots and a failed corner, I send a through ball past a couple defenders into the box, then lovingly lift a gentle cross - a cross that came down from the sky on a cloud - to the other side of goal onto the ready head of Rodriguez, who then does some breakdancing.

"Coulda been better, coulda been worse". True, but with the away goal, the other match can finish 0-0 and I'd still go through to Round 2.

35' DOMINICAN REPUBLIC GOAL (K. Rodriguez) - ha I was basically using the post or the goalie to pass the ball from either side of goal. It took several rebounds but finally I caught the goalie out and Rodriguez flung his body around to net it through.

Espinal) Espinal, the captain, was not happy about the yellow card, and took his frustrations out by blasting a shot off the right post and in, connecting on a through pass without even taking a touch. The goalie knew he had no chance, didn't even bother moving. Definitely into the 2nd Round now.

damn, was worried I pulled the trigger a little too early, letting fire from about 22 yards out while being chased down, but I managed to hit it around the keeper and curve it just inside the far post. Beauty.
83' EL SALVADOR GOAL (A. Flores) - goddam it. I get called for offside trying to make a run. El Salvador sends the ensuing free kick long and two of my defenders run away from the guy receiving the pass. He's all alone in on goal, and though my goalie does well to get a piece of the shot, it ends up dribbling slowly over the goalline.
