Apparently, the machines evolved past them and wiped them out because they were boring. The real enigma is man or some such, so now Adam and Eve (the previously naked Sephiroths who are now merely shirtless Sephiroths) want to find the remnants of humanity and dissect them to find out how they can be so complex and nuanced. I appreciate the naming conventions here because Eve broke off from Adam, and according to the intel data, he can regenerate endlessly. I also appreciate the similarity to MGS3 in the Adam/Eve duo. I guess the real question is how many of these machines are like these two because the other machines we've encountered up to this point don't seem very advanced.
