It's true that "the best way to get a job is to have a job" is sound advice, but sometimes, the misery of a person's current job completely overpowers that logic. My gf left her job a couple weeks ago without anything "in the big" even though she has an opportunity she's close to landing. I'm glad she did, because the stress of that job was practically killing her, and the idea of staying there until she DID land something else depressed her even more.
