the PS2 era was a perfect moment in time for games in so many ways with where budget, developer experience, tech level, userbase, market environment, so on aligned perfectly for all sorts of games, in particular, it was middle budget heaven

the PS1 era was the precursor to this but the tech and experience wasn't quite there, and then the next generation opened with devs taking that same bright-eyed outlook to the higher power 360, the creative draw of the Wii and DS, and the just-about-on-par-with-PS2 PSP, but it fizzled out by the generation's end due to the changes in the market environment and dev costs just getting too high
