I got why he was so freaked (though I didn't get why Reimi was apparently so unable to lead in his absence. One of the important things about being a first officer is being able to take over when needed.) but it clearly needed to show a bit more. I suspect him explaining why he cared so much or, more likely, him explaining a longing and hope for a future Earth without the multitude of problems that his Earth has. I actually felt more frustrated by Faize turning evil because of that doomsday cult. Yea, sure, you had a connection with them and they clearly tried to show that you cared, but you're response to their murder was to turn to evil and everything?
