It is impossible to have a perfect justice system. As a result, the state shouldn't kill when there is a viable alternative. You are allowing emotion to cloud your judgement.

I place a greater value on human life than on the life of dogs. That's not exactly unusual. I'd imagine you do too, or do you think that the penalty for killing dogs and humans should be the same?

I put a higher value on the life of a good dog compared to the life of a rapist, murdering human, yes. Absolutely. Without hesitation.
