It [microwave] is in all ways inferior to kettle boiled
curious, what are these ways you refer to?
microwaving actual coffee or tea, as opposed to just the water, *does* seem to affect the taste enough that I quickly learned never to do that. (for coffee I have a keurig like machine anyway, so I don't do this for coffee anyway.)
but otherwise, the microwave is faster, and the microwave doesn't involve mineral buildup which can leave a really nasty taste in water. only problem the microwave has is also heating the container, often making it hard to pick up.
Speed. Energy efficiency. Taste. Safety (superheated water will scar you). Microwave is slow and inefficient compared to an electric kettle. I'm not sure what kettles you've used but they are much faster than microwaves.

Even for coffee just boiling water in a kettle and using my cone drip filter is much tastier, cheaper, environmentally friendly, and easier to maintain than a Keurig
Microwaves are pretty fast. And my Keurig has been pretty easy to maintain. Basically cleans itself...
They're plastic everywhere and eventually taste of stagnant mildew water if you neglect to be perfect about water changes. If a scaled kettle is a concern a Keurig is a lot more to worry about
For most of the parts that the water touches, you can just run water through. And certain cleaning products, if you choose. The rest, you can just wipe down... ---
