I don't think 12 step is for me but I'm trying to do the best I can and learn as many lessons as I can. After this I want to do a cognitive behavioral therapy intensive outpatient program.

I'm a recovering heroin addict. 4 years clean. i ended up getting on suboxone and Haven't used since. now i'm trying to get off the sub. I've been to a billion 12 step meetings, I've seen them work just they aren't for everyone. if the problem is alcohol try anabuse i may be spelling it wrong but google it along with quitting drinking. it literally makes you allergic to alcohol so screwing up isn't an option. but good luck with what ever your problems and stay strong man

Congrats on the sobriety!

The only problem with antabuse is compliance with the medication. People just stop taking it for a few days if they want to drink again. I think they use Vivitrol for heroin AND alcohol. It's just a shot you take like once a month and it helps get rid of cravings. Personally I'd think if it were at all possible, I'd take the non-medicated treatment route first. I'm not saying that Suboxone and other medications are not viable options though.
