That's just flagrantly untrue. You need to balance how much space you have available with how much you want that dedicated device, obviously, but otherwise there's no reason not to have a waffle iron if you want waffles, or a coffee maker if you want coffee. Some things do actually need a dedicated device (or at least are so much easier with a dedicated device that it's sensible to have one).

That, and if you're suggesting that boiling water is "only one thing," I'm thinking you need to cook more.
