The directions can be kinda vague but not too vague from my experience. When said NPC tells you said cave is located south-east of this town, I can usually find it eventually. There are times I "fly" over where I am suppose to go and have to look over the map again to see what I missed. As for knowing when a quest is done, usually the NPC will have no more further conversation in regards to the quest once it is over. The wording within the quest log sometimes implies said quest is done. --- "You must gather your party before venturing forth" "Go for the eyes Boo!
