Nearly a year and a half later, Square Enix continues to work on this game, as evidenced by the recent release of the Royal Edition. Every few months Square continues to charge customers by presenting new content in the form of 1- or 2-hour long DLC (none of which I played). It took them a while to release off-road Regalia, and apparently the new Royal Edition has a few extra scenes and boss fights in the final dungeon, none of which makes that big of a difference. Instead of working on that mysterious and nice-looking second continent of the game, Square spends time creating boring festival DLC and Assassin's Creed DLC instead of actually, you know, attempting to make a coherent, complete game. I happened to play the Witcher 3 immediately after FFXV, and while both games are open world, it's apples and oranges because the latter's open world was bigger, better, and complete. Not to mention TW3's DLC was released within a year or so and both scenarios were 10 hours and 25 hours long, respectively. FFXV's DLC hasn't even come close to that.

I should also mention Pitioss, a secret dungeon that involves using the game's clunky control scheme to navigate a platformer dungeon with no enemies. This dungeon seems like it was meant for a different game and I happen to think they just threw it in there because they didn't know what to do with the concept. Le sigh.

I don't rank this game last or near last because I have faith that one day it will be completed. Square Enix dug themselves a grave where they announced this game way too early and had to release it to avoid losing steam with the franchise. Did they make money? Yes, yes they did. Did they lose a crapton of fans? Oh, most definitely, myself included. But there will come a day when this shall be finished. And if that never happens, well...no surprise there I guess.

If you have not played Final Fantasy XV yet, I urge you to wait and see what happens.
