I understand what you're saying, but I think i disagree with the reasoning. The expectations of the ending are proportional to the content of the game.

It is certainly disappointing when you have an unsatisfying ending to something that had a lot of world building or play time as opposed to something with minimal exposition or less intricate story telling receiving a similarly simple ending.

For example, I'd expect a better ending out of say Planescape Torment than I would out of Adventure for the atari. I'd be disappointed if the former had an "ending" at the level of the latter.
