That's just normal anti-republican sentiment. I haven't seen many (though I have seen a non-zero amount) actually reduce their faith in government.

yeah, literally nobody is saying "the fact that trump can take over the government means we should give the government less power"

yeah, but just because they don't think the state is always wrong doesn't mean the opposite - that they think the state is always right - is true. even if you use the "they don't think trump is the state" argument, it's not just trump. statists have also bashed the bushes, reagan, etc. etc. you can't say "they thought all of those guys weren't actually the state!" it's more like they think democracy is "always right," but not necessarily what democracy leads to.

to an extent i agree with you guys that it's weird that statists aren't calling for less power to the president/more power to the states, though. it's like they think doing that would do more damage in the long run, so they'd rather deal with a lunatic being set loose for four years and wait for a sensible person to get elected who has to clean up all the mess than fix the problem immediately. though part of it could also be a practical issue. there's a 0% chance the president is ever going to get less power, so why waste a lot of time and effort arguing that this should be the case?
