The Lesotho influence can be seen in Black Panthers scenes set above Wakandas snow line: Lesotho is a rare sub-Saharan country with a ski hill. Unfortunately, being more self-ruling down through its history than most other African countries doesnt seem to have turned Lesotho into Wakanda. Wikipedia reports: About 40% of the population lives below the international poverty line of $1.25 a day. In urban areas, about 50% of women under 40 have HIV. With AIDS becoming less lethal, life expectancy in Lesotho is recently back up to 50 years. On the other hand, Lesotho, despite its abundant problems, has some sources of pride as a monocultural ethno-state (its name translates into the land of the people who speak Sesotho): Poverty and unemployment rates are high, violent crimes are common, and there are many reports of rape and abuse against women. But there are also sources of stability and wealth: Most people in Lesotho own their own land and their own homes. They speak the same language and share the same religion.
