Overall I'd say Your Name is a pretty good movie, but I did like the first half noticeably more than it's second half. I think the movie does a really good job establishing it's characters and the central idea, and then also showing them begin to change as a result of the whole body-switching thing. But then when--from my perspective--they should have doubled down on that, they instead decide to veer off into this kind of weird sci-fi(?) plot that never felt like it established a proper foothold in the movie, if that makes sense. And like I cared about the characters, but not in such a manner that was going to be invested in a plotline like that by default, and so it all it really felt like was that the whole thing gave me whiplash.
