I could try, I suppose. I wouldn't say that they're off limits. Nothing new under the sun and all that. But I would say that you would be limited to borrowing what other writers might borrow. For example, you could have a character who jumps around like Nightcrawler, but they couldn't be blue or have his troubled past. Ah, gotcha. I think I could do it, then.
