It's not like your friend's opinion dictates public policy in a direct fashion(maybe it does, I don't know your friend). Otherwise, I wonder what the purpose of "getting" someone else to agree with you is. Perhaps for fun? I think it's far more important for people to be able to maintain a friendship with mutual respect for differing opinions.
