TopicDisney's Hercules vs Pocahontas: worst Renaissance movie?

I don't have one good thing to say about Pocahontas.

First off, even if it had been good, I hate liberties being taken with historical figures. It's one thing to tell a story inspired by Pocahontas's rescue of John Smith. It's another to turn a 13 year old girl in a relationship with a fat bearded guy into a romance between a Native American Tyra Banks and an Aryan Mel Gibson.

Second, it's just a horrible film in its own right. The Disney knockoffs like Quest for Camelot and Anastasia were better movies. The villain is terrible. The leads have little personality. Nothing really happens in the film. It's just a bunch of scenery and they expect you to watch the film because she's the first Native American protagonist a Disney movie has had. (Yes, they did progress instead of a plot in the 90s too.)

Also, I hate to be this guy, but how do you tack a happy ending on a film like that when centuries of war and genocide followed? A raccoon and a dog playfully chasing one another is not an accurate metaphor for the conflicts which would ensue.

It deserves all of the hate it gets and far, far more.
