I don't think it's Best Game Ever, but it has it's quirks and is surprisingly well put together with good writing and good music (gameplay is ok, but it's clearly not its strength) Indie games are over hyped by their fans (like pretty much everything else), and so the people who don't like them get upset because it's popular and they think it shouldn't be. It's kind of similar to music, and how people hate artists just because they're popular and they don't like their music.
