TopicIn RPGs, do you usually prefer turn-based combat or real-time combat?

Action-based because usually it feels like I'm more in control of my actions and that combat usually feels more rewarding. Being able to actually dodge or block an attack feels far more rewarding to me than having a chance to dodge/block it.

I, personally, lean strongly toward turn-based. It tends to offer more strategy and depth. Too often, in games like Tales of Symphonia, I felt as if I just spammed the generic attack button like crazy while throwing in a special attack every so often, not really doing much thinking.

I feel like this can also apply to turn-based combat as well. Spam attack and strongest spells. Maybe I've just been playing too many bad turn-based RPGs recently.
