I haven't put them in the controller grip for months now. I didn't think I'd like the separate hands idea after the Wii, but after trying it a few times I've gotten used to it. With the Wii it always felt too small in my hands (well, the Nunchuck) but somehow the joycons feel nice despite being smaller. My only real complaint about the design is the lack of a real d-pad, but it's a decent sacrifice for being able to do single-joycon multiplayer in a pinch.
