Pretty much. This is actually a very good reason for him to quit (after lining up something else of course), as he has now effectively been told that he's not moving up in this company.

He isn't moving up in the company because he isn't putting in the effort required for the promotion. You aren't owed a promotion just for sticking around long enough. And you know what's going to happen at his next job? There will be another MICHAELCOLE who is better and more willing to put in the effort for the promotion.


I agree with this. first job I ever got a promotion at, I had only been there a year. there was a chick who had been there 9 years and never had even gotten so much as a raise. she was just a mediocre employee that was only worth keeping around because she showed up for work and did the bare minimal required to not get canned.
