Ya, it's really unfair that kids are forced to go to school based on their assigned district - when that could include a garbage school

Yeah my mom fought for me to go to my elementary school. School should be mandatory, no matter what but you shouldn't be forced to go to certain districts. If you want to drive your kid 5 miles to school, you should have that option.

But I do get their reasoning behind it. Overcrowding in a school is a thing, and they kinda have to prioritize the kids that live near the school. Could you imagine if you lived 2 blocks away from a school but were told you couldn't go there because the classes were full? If it's a public school, how else do you even regulate how many students get to go there?

A better plan would be bring up the quality of education in all schools so that it wouldn't matter, but talking to my teacher friends, that's basically impossible. When the school is in a low income area, and the kids who come to school have significant problems at home, it just takes longer to get even the basics across, as they can't 100% focus at school, and sure as hell won't be doing any homework.
