Never liked Ratchet. I dunno why. I think it's because he looks like an action figure. But decided to play this anyway. The game's better than I thought but I still don't love it. It's a platformer but there's more shooting than platforming. Which is fine I guess. Sometimes I really like the game, other times it's ugh. Also the checkpointing is cruel. But it's a neat game, with great graphics for the PS2 and I like the artstyle.
This year was year of platformers for me. I beat Sly1, Ratchet1, Jak1, Croc1&2, Crash3, Mario 64 and Spyro1 and Kao2. Fug. Never had any of these growing up except Croc 1 so this was like making up for that. Sly is my favorite.
Sly > Spyro > Mario 64 > Croc > Jak > Ratchet > Croc 2 > Kao2 > Crash 3

Might want to try later installments anyway. Some of the recent ones play really fluidly, and are definitely more forgiving than R&C1. Either Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time or the Ratchet and Clank Reboot for PS4 would be good options. Especially ACiT is great! ---
