I'm not a huge Zelda fan, but I actually liked the way it did it. Just going from shrine to shrine and tower to tower without having a billion collectibles is the way to go. Seeing a shrine or a tower and figuring out how to reach it was fun.

I liked Odyssey's density, too, but I think the main thing I appreciate about both of them is that they limit the amount of collectibles to basically just two things.

BotW had a much bigger ratio of fun/unique/interesting to shrine than Odyssey has to moons. It has issues involving the overworld becoming worthless once your weapons hit a certain level, but the game itself does so many things in such a right way that I can't complain too much.

Odyssey got a bit too crazy with collectathon, the ratio of lazy moons to good moons simply isn't great. I think its a great building block and a more streamlined sequel could be fantastic, but as it is the issues definitely weight it down.

BotW just got so many things right in letting you play the game in so many different ways, all of which feel quite meaningful. Odyssey has so many things you can do with Mario, but the meaningful part is rarely ever attached because too many moons lack challenge or thought.
